Inside Cytonics’ Breakthrough Year: 2023 Recap & 2024 Outlook
Join us as we reflect on a year of innovation and look forward to the promising developments on the horizon.
From the entire Cytonics team, I’d like to wish you and your families a Happy Holiday and New Year! 2023 has been a turbulent year for many, marked by layoffs, recession fears, and high interest rates. Yet, the capital markets have never been more bullish, with the S&P hitting historic highs in December. The Biotech sector has also benefited from this positive sentiment, with the XBI (a biotechnology SPDR ETF) up 20% over the last 30 days! Cytonics has also rode this positive sentiment, with over $1,000,000 invested from 400+ investors within the first 3 weeks of our equity crowdfunding campaign.
All signs point to a strong 2024 in biotech, which will be marked by (1) increased M&A activity as Big Pharma is pressured to spend the cash they hoarded during COVID in the face of looming patent expirations, (2) an uptick in IPOs as many companies delayed going public due to unfavorable market conditions, and (3) a higher volume of Venture Capital investment as the IPO window opens back up and the sector generally becomes more “risk-on.”
✨ The tide is turning. 2024 will be the year for biotech (and Cytonics)!
All of these factors bode very well for Cytonics, as our Phase 1 clinical trial data will be unlocked in early Q1 2025. Then, the search begins for path towards exit. This will come in the form of either (1) a strategic partner to co-develop our lead osteoarthritis drug candidate, CYT-108, through Phase 2 clinical studies. This timing could be *perfect*, as valuations across the sector rise and Pharma becomes more acquisitive to fill their R&D pipelines. Or, (2) we file for an Initial Public Offering after the Phase 1 data is unlocked with the intention of raising $30M to fund the Phase 2 ourselves. The timing of a 2025 IPO could be *perfect*, as public offerings will have gained more steam and the market’s appetite for early-stage assets will have heightened by then.
And while all of this is speculative, and no guarantee, what I do know is that we are sailing into 2024 with strong tailwinds at our backs. We are on the cusp of the single biggest milestone in our company’s entire history, and a major valuation inflection point: our first-in-human Phase 1 clinical study. If approved by the FDA, our lead drug candidate for osteoarthritis, CYT-108, will likely be the first and only disease-modifying treatment for osteoarthritis…
🏆 The Holy Grail of Regenerative Medicine that has eluded Big Pharma for decades is within our grasp.
